A four-leaved clover is probably the oldest and the best recognized good luck symbol of the West. Irishmen believed that every leaf of this plant symbolizes four fundamental forces of life: love, faith, hope, and luck.
While in ancient Germanic mythology this sign is linked to the world of fairies: supposedly a person could have seen these mythical creatures of the forest only then if he/she had found a four-leaved clover.
